Why won’t Alexa connect to Wi-Fi during the setup?

Well, do you see an Orange light on your Alexa-powered device? If you see the light, then then it is trying to tell you that it is not able to connect with the WiFi. Sometimes, Alexa won’t connect to Wi-Fi. then that does not mean for a proper connection between the DSL modem or the cable and the internet.

The first thing that the Amazon Alexa device will try to do is to reconnect the Wi-Fi network and then get connected with the network. If you see that your Wi-Fi is not providing you with a stable connection, then it is not going to work.

So one of the first steps, in order to configure, is to re-establish the connection. Now what you need to do is to remember that you need to set up your echo device through Alexa. So unless your phone is connected with the Wi-Fi, Alexa won’t know where to connect to either.

Thus you need to make sure that you are using a steady connection. You can check that from your phone.

Now if you are still not able to make Alexa won’t connect to Wi-Fi, then follow the troubleshooting steps below.

Troubleshooting steps to fix Alexa won’t connect to Wi-Fi:

Check your Internet:

There are times when the Alexa won’t connect to Wi-Fi when the connection from the router to your ISP is down. Well, before you start to tweak the settings and press the buttons on the Alexa device, you need to double-check that your internet connection is not down.

Well, you can do this by grabbing the other device that is connected with the network and opening the web browser or using the online service. If you cannot get the internet connection on the other device as well, then the issue is with the network or the internet connection as a whole.

Power cycling the router:

If you see that your internet is working perfectly fine, then the issue might be with your router. Well, you need to provide it with a fast power cycle process in order to edit Alexa’s settings.

The method to power cycle the router will differ for every model and the main thing is always the same. Well, you need to turn it off and then wait for at least 20-30 seconds and then turn it back on.

You must make sure that anyone else who is connected with the internet is also going to lose the signal when you attempt this step. Make sure nobody is doing something important before you are doing this.

If you are still not able to resolve the issue, then you might notice a Red ring on Alexa that will state that your device is still offline. You must proceed to the next step.

Restarting the Alexa device:

Well, if your router is working fine then it is time that you try the same thing with the Alexa device. You will not be able to find a power button on the Alexa device. So you need to unplug it from the mains directly.

Well, when it has no power, then you need to wait for at least 30 seconds in order to make sure it creates a clean slate for the device and then plug it back in again. Once you finish the Alexa Setup, then check if you are able to give the commands or not.

In the same way, if you or someone else has recently changed the password of the router, then it is going to cause the present connected device to drop off. This is because they will still be trying to gain access with the old password that will no longer be working.

If this has happened recently with you, then you would need to set up the router on Alexa again so that you can provide a new correct password. In order to add the router again, you first need to open the Alexa app and tap on the devices at the bottom.

You need to select your Alexa device, then tap on the option on the top right-hand side corner. Go through the process of setting up your Wi-Fi again and then enter the router’s password. If someone else might have changed it, then you have to enter a new password during the setup process.
