What is Aces and Faces Video Poker?

Aces and Faces is a variation of video poker games. It has its basis in Jacks or Better, a popular card game, with few fundamental changes, which are mainly related to the payouts.

You can play Aces and Faces with a deck of 52 cards. After deciding your bet, you get five cards from which you may hold any number of cards to build the strongest game and can discard the remaining. Using the same deck, you can replace these cards.

The strategy of Aces and Faces Video Poker game

The payoffs of this game depend on the aces and combinations of face cards. The possible combinations go like this (in the descending order of their payoffs):

  • Royal Flush: A hand of Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and Ten of the same suit. It is the best hand and gets the highest payoff.
  • Four of a Kind: It is a hand containing four cards of one rank and the fifth card of another suit, known as a kicker.
  • Straight Flush: This is a hand with five cards in a sequence, all of the same suit.
  • Four cards draw to a Royal Flush: A Royal flush with an Ace, King, Queen, Jack, of the same suit and a kicker.
  • Full House: It is a combination where any three cards are of the same number, and the other two cards are of different numbers or face value.
  • Flush: It is a hand with all five cards of the same suit, not necessarily in sequential order or rank.
  • Straight: This hand contains five cards in sequential order or rank, but not necessarily of the same suit.
  • Three of a Kind: It is also known as a set or trips. There are three cards of one rank and two cards of two different levels.
  • Four cards draw to a Straight Flush: This is a hand with four cards in a sequence, all belonging to the same suit with a kicker of any suit.
  • Two Pairs: Two pairs contain two cards of one rank, the other two cards of another class and one card is a kicker.
  • A pair of Jacks or Better: This is a hand where you have two Jacks, and the remaining three cards can be of any rank and suit.
  • Three cards draw to a Royal Flush: A Royal flush with an Ace, King, and a Queen while remaining two cards are the kicker.
  • Four cards draw to a Flush: A hand with four cards of the same suit, not necessarily in a sequence, and the fifth can be of any rank or suit.
  • Unsuited 10JQK: You have a hand with a combination of a Ten, a Jack, a Queen, and a King with one kicker of different suits.
  • Any low pair: Any pair which is not going to perform well concerning a payoff, like 2-2 and 3-3.
  • Four cards to a Straight Draw: This is a hand containing four cards in sequential order or rank, not necessarily of the same suit and the fifth is a kicker
  • Three cards to a Straight Flush: This is a hand with three cards in a sequence, all of the same suit with two kickers of any suit.
  • AKQJ unsuited: You have a hand with a combination of an Ace, a King, a Queen, and a Jack, with one kicker of different suits.
  • Two cards draw to a Royal Flush: A Royal flush with an Ace and a King, while the remaining three cards can be of any rank and suit.
  • Three cards to a straight draw: This is a hand containing three sequential rank cards, not necessarily of the same suit and two kickers.
  • KQJ, QJ, KQ, or KJ (unsuited): A hand with King – Queen – Jack, Queen – Jack, Queen – King, or a King – Jack with remaining kickers, all of the different suits.
  • Two cards to a Straight Flush: It is a hand with two cards in a sequence of the same suit and three kickers of any suit.
  • JT or QT suited: A hand with Jack and Ten or Queen and Ten with three kickers from the same suit.
  • Unsuited hi cards: A hand having two high cards, from two different suits with the remaining three kickers of any suit. 
  • One high card: In a game of poker, the result of a game is sometimes based on the highest card. The player possessing that card is the winner of the game.
  • Discard everything: When you “throw-away’ all the cards, it is known as “discard everything.”
