LED Mask Therapy Technology: Things you should know about it

If you have been recently researching beautification methods online, then you have very likely come across LED Mask Therapy. Let’s take a look at what all the buzz is about.

These are masks which are designed to do several things for the skin. They can mainly be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines. These masks do this by stimulating the production of collagen.

These masks also have the potential to combat acne because they possess certain antibacterial benefits. It is a well known fact in science that there are certain wavelengths of light that can be extremely beneficial for both healthy skin and for skin disease as well.

However, experts do recommend that people understand the limitations that these masks possess. So let us take a closer look at how exactly these masks work and to see if it can be of use for you.

How do they work?

LED masks can emit wavelengths that are visible and they can emit from blue to red light as well. On the electromagnetic spectrum, these wavelengths stand at between 400 and 700 nanometres.

Blue light, which is around the 400 mark, is perfect for tackling acne by targeting the bacteria that are responsible for the acne. The red variety, on the other hand, is much closer to 700 and it can penetrate a lot deeper and it is used much more for the production of general collagen boosting. It does this by increasing the circulation of blood.

A lot of experts have also posited that these masks can also reduce inflammation. It is also important to note that some masks claim that they are “infrared’ or are “near infrared”. That would be above the 700 mark on the electromagnetic spectrum.

When you move beyond the 700, it traditionally gives you a lot of warmth. Experts also say that the masks of the infrared variety are used much more to apply heat that can treat pain in the joints. These infrared masks are not used for treating any conditions of the skin.

How Effective Exactly

Experts think that the results obtained from LED masks are at best likely to be mild. People who are potentially thinking of getting these masks should know that these products do not have any of the guarantees of LED light therapy that reputable companies such as Celluma or even clinics use.

Those clinics do offer guarantees. So right there is a huge issue. The question that really arises here is, if you are to spend on a LED mask, would you not be better off with LED light therapy at a clinic. Those are at least much more trusted with being able to bring in results.

You should also know that the level of intensity that these masks require in order to give off the supposed benefits is quite intense and it has to be fairly full on.

Experts also claim that in order for these masks to have the potential to give off those mild benefits, you would need to use the mask at least three times a week for a period of about thirty minutes.

As with anything else, the more you make use of these masks, the more chances you have of seeing the benefits. However, if you are not a big fan of face masks, then this light therapy device can be your choice.

Risks?

During an earlier time this year, one of the biggest beauty brands, Neutrogena, happened to recall the light therapy mask it had put out after it was noticed that the device possesses  a theoretical risk of injury to the eyes.

The issue is with protection for the eye. It has to be mentioned that these masks are normally worn about 30 centimeters away from the face. This comfortably allows people to wear goggles when undergoing the therapy.

Just as long as there are proper steps taken to protect the eyes and also as long as the product is not faulty, LED masks pose no risk.

But, and this is a big but, it has to be pointed out that there currently does not exist any studies on the issue. So, in essence, even experts don’t really know what exactly the masks are doing.

Which one should I get?

Without the availability of proper clinical trials, even the experts are in the dark when it comes to making suggestions as to what masks to buy and one that is also effective at doing what the manufacturer claims it can do.

When you do a bit of research on these masks, you quickly find that the prices of these things range from about $40 to about $1,900.

There are a lot of these devices available out there. You should be wary that not all companies make these masks according to the same standard. There are certain devices which are OK and there are also those which do not deliver.
